A quiet time is all I need...

Genesis 28:16-19; Luke 6:12

And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not. 17 And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven. 18 And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it. 19 And he called the name of that place Bethel: [1] but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.

Luke 6: 12 One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.

The Scripture verses above support the discipline of spending time with God.
How easy it is for me to forget that. The media and everything else is always crying out for my attention..matters pertaining to my children, the Internet, social networking websites, and even my dogs. Making time for God is hard but without that connection, we lose a vital lifeline. Everything else that we do would become mechanical.

I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. This verse hits the nail on the head. Apart from God, I can do nothing....Yes, I have done plenty without Him but none bore any fruit. But the times when he had definitely guided me and when I had really seek Him, everything I touched bore fruits and I could see His favour pouring down one me.

Lord, may I be like Jesus who constantly tap on Your power and spends time listening and talking to You. Help me take time to be apart from all the activities that are shouting for my attention. I want to spend time with You, reading your word. How precious to me are your thoughts. How vast is the sum of them.
